First, wearing his editor in chief hat, Duane Swierczynski announces the winners of the Philadelphia City Paper's 19th Annual Fiction Contest -- the Pulp Edition:

Crime Fiction: Craig McDonald, "The Devil's in the Details" (judged by Ken Bruen)
Congrats to all the winners, and especially to Craig, showing that he is slowly but surely on his way to leaving all fiction pretenders in the dust...
And yet more congrats to Duane who must be grinning from ear to ear about this choice bit of news:
Film rights to Duane Swierczynski's SMELL THE ROSES
retitled as THE WHEELMAN, the story of a mute Irish getaway driver who falls in with the wrong heist team on the wrong day at the wrong bank, to Plum Films in Scotland, by David Hale Smith at DHS Literary.
Congratulations to Craig - great story.
And, bloody hell, I just let out a big shriek at work and 3 people dropped their coffee. Leblanc - that's fantastic news on the film deal. I'm grinning like a Cheshire Cat - that's fair cheered me up.

Thanks, Chuffed of Glasgow and El Jefe. Sarah's right--I'm thrilled. If you take a look at the country mentioned, you'll know who's to blame. Not only is Al "Sunshine" Guthrie the hardest working man in noir, but the most generous, too.
And big congrats to Craig, whose terrific story stood tall through a long judging process. I'm really eager to hear what our readers think of this "pulp edition."
