Maybe it depends on how you define crime writing star. She could be identifying those writers that will be stars outside the confines of the genre. In other words, writers that the average person on the street has heard of and not just a star to those of us who read the genre.

David J. Montgomery

You mean Lee Child isn't a star yet?

Pardon me while I go burn my f'ing manuscript.

Mind you, I'd imagine Ken's pretty pleasantly surprised to be described as a "young gun".

I imagine Selina means in a "just getting established" way, but still, it did give me a chuckle.

But I also can't help noticing that Transworld publish Lehane, Bruen, Kernick and Child...

The lady who found the bigger room was actuallly Annie Chernow. I have to agree with his comment about Selina Walker as she is a lovely lady to talk to and is also one of the nicest people I know in the UK publishing world.

Thanks for that, Ayo.. yep, it was my suggestion to move rooms.

George's comment about Paul Johnston's absence caught my attention because I had an email from Paul the day before Bouchercon began. He was originally planning to to attend but had just finished being moderator for 31 events (panels and interviews) at the Edinburgh

Thanks for that, Ayo.. yep, it was my humble suggestion to move rooms for the Barry awards. Guess Mr Easter does not remember my name but that's okay.

George's comment about Paul Johnston's absence caught my attention because I had an email from Paul the day before Bouchercon began. He was originally planning to come to Chicago but had just finished being moderator for 31 events (!) (panels and interviews) at the Edinburgh Book Fest and was just too tired to attend Bcon too. His health is improved so that was not the issue, but he decided to take it easy and not get totally worn out doing both events back to back.. (I have it on good advice that he is a dynamite moderator.)

Annie

Excuse that double post..
I'm working on an ancient, tempermental, borrowed laptop here in NY.. this thing's a clunker.
