Hooray for Vintage.

Very happy to see this. Ross MacDonald has taken somewhat of a beating on Rara Avis in the past day, so it's good to see that he's appreciated elsewhere.

I can't recommend highly enough Tom Nolan's biography on MacDonald. It's an exhaustive and extremely entertaining read.

It warms my heart to see MacDonald back in the literary news. His stuff ages well, especially the psychoanalytic scrutiny he gave to the lives of his subjects.

Everybody takes it for granted that the Sopranos invented that kind of exploration of criminal life. For my money, MacDonald is really the guy who brought Freud to crime writing.
