For some reason it took me this long to get around to Murakami's highly acclaimed psycho thriller that trawls the extreme underbelly of Japan's sex trade, and god knows why, because it's creepily fantastic (and suitably violent, almost to the point of dreamlike hallucination.) It's a novel about excess, about failed dreams, and about navigating through the worst horrors to find some sort of belated peace - if such a thing is actually possible.
